BBC News – Sense of smell ‘may predict lifespan’

The evidence that life (and consciousness) is an emergent phenomenon keeps piling up.  Richard Dawkins talked about extended phenotypes - beaver bodies + beaver dams making beavering possible - and I  think this is an excellent observation.  But if the process of extending phenotypes continues and continues eventually the rationale for talking about phenotypes (and genotypes) in the first place disappears.  .

Then we have a process metaphysics!
