An example of a new genre of conflict bridging culturally admired sporting events, with audiences and fans applauding conflict in real time, and 'real wars' where citizens have been until recently physically and psychologically removed from events.  The test is whether they have to wait for the CBC or Democracy Now to inform them  of successes or failures.

As technologies  evolve,  this distinction between sports and military confrontations seems to be evaporating.
