It bears repeating:  the elephant in the progress and development war room is that progress and development has regressive consequences for most participants.

Part of the problem is that this does not seem inevitable. It is possible to imagine progress and development advantaging everyone but there is no reason to trust t hat this will happen. There is certainly no reason to believe that it is happening.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.  Progress and development is the real reason America is self-destructing.  Americans are sorting themselves into rich and poor populations as fast as they can; while the processes achieving this result hide behind talk of  rising tides lifting all boats.
